Heaven's Gate

If there was an afterlife, I wonder where we’d be,

Beyond the skies, where heaven lies, and finally we’re free.

If there were an afterlife, I beg we try to believe,

In shooting stars, the sun and mars, the life we learn to grieve.

Somewhere across the border, I heard a preacher say,

Every moon has light, each day has night, and God is here to stay.

Whether his words possessed more meaning, than a warning from above,

Maybe a metaphor, to even the score, with a little touch of love.

Around our necks a cross hangs, a symbol of our pride,

Something we wear, comfort and prayer, our Holy Spirit guide.

But perhaps it’s message is forgotten, in these blurry modern days,

Where religion fades, behind makeup shades, under his watchful gaze.

Some spend their lives waiting, for Eden’s holy gate,

With angel wings, and queens and kings, ever-impending fate.

But should we conform to an idea, in order to make it there?

Risk losing our pace, falling from grace, in the name of something unfair.

If there really was an afterlife, I think we all deserve a chance,

A shot in the dark, whether we miss the mark, or live on to take a stance.

If there truly is an afterlife, I hope we can try to see,

Enjoy your time, ascend your climb, what happens is meant to be.
